For the first time in 20 years, Nickelback will be playing a show on Vancouver Island.
The freshly-rebranded Laketown Amphitheatre announced this morning that the iconic Canadian rock band will be headlining a single-day event at the concert venue in Cowichan, BC.
Nickelback is set to play the picturesque outdoor setting on Saturday, Aug. 9, with support from another pair of fantastic Canadian bands in The Glorious Sons and Sam Roberts Band.
“Nickelback’s return to Vancouver Island is a momentous occasion for the region’s music fans. As a band that has carried the Canadian rock torch on the global stage, their impact on the industry is undeniable,” says a Laketown Amphitheatre release.
“Inducted into Canada’s Walk of Fame and recently named to the Canadian Music Hall of Fame, Nickelback has cemented their legacy as one of the nation’s most enduring musical acts.”
Anyone looking to make a full weekend out of it will be able to see blues-rock artist Garret T. Willie at Laketown Amphitheatre one day earlier.
The 23-year-old from Kingcome Inlet, BC, will play the Flats Stage as part of the Kick-Off Party for weekend campers on Friday, Aug. 8.
This is the first major announcement for Laketown Amphitheatre after January’s rebrand announcement.
After hosting the Laketown Shakedown music festival for several years, organizers announced a move away from the Shakedown name, programming model and typical dates.
The goal was to be open to a wider range of opportunities throughout the summer that would include a “wide array of single and multi-day events between May and September.”
It’s a model more similar to the famous Gorge Amphitheatre in Washington, which will host a mix of festivals and major concerts.
The Nickelback show is the first example of that model and, much like shows at the Gorge, it will still come with a camping option for attendees who want to make a weekend event out of it.
Admission and camping passes to see Nickelback, The Glorious Sons and Sam Roberts Band at Laketown Amphitheatre in August will go on sale to the general public at 10 am on Friday, March 21.
