Mel Arnold re-elected, wins Kamloops-Shuswap-Central Rockies riding

(UPDATE: April 28 @ 9:30 pm) – Conservative candidate Mel Arnold is heading back to Ottawa to represent the newly formed Kamloops-Shuswap-Central Rockies riding.

At 9:30 pm, 150 of 243 polls report Arnold in the lead.

As of 9:30 pm, Arnold secured 14,141 votes, or 55.4 % of the vote.

He has been in a strong lead all night and KamloopsNow is declaring his win.

Arnold was first elected in 2015 to represent the former North Okanagan–Shuswap riding.

After Arnold, Liberal candidate Ken Robertson secured 8,841 votes at the time of this latest update.

Phaedra Idzan for the NDP secured 1,457 votes, Owen Madden with the Green Party secured821 votes and John Michael Henry for the People’s Party of Canada got 279 votes.


(UPDATE: April 28 @ 8:48 pm) – Conservative candidate Mel Arnold is in the lead with 3,709 votes, or 56.2% of the vote so far.

As of 8:48 pm, 45 of 243 polls are reporting for the Kamloops-Shuswap-Central Rockies.

Liberal candidate Ken Robertson has 2,163 votes.

Idzan for the NDP has 417, Madden for the Green Party has 231 and Henry for the PPC has 85.


(UPDATE: April 28 @ 8:28 pm) – Conservative candidate Mel Arnold is in the lead with 1,982 votes, or 55.5% of the vote so far.

As of 8:28 pm, 28 of 243 polls are reporting for the Kamloops-Shuswap-Central Rockies.

Liberal candidate Ken Robertson has 1,190 votes.

Idzan for the NDP has 246, Madden for the Green Party has 107 and Henry for the PPC has 48.


(UPDATE: April 28 @ 8:08 pm) – Conservative candidate Mel Arnold is in the lead with 962 votes, or 59.1% of the vote so far.

As of 8:08 pm, 15 of 243 polls are reporting for the Kamloops-Shuswap-Central Rockies.

Liberal candidate Ken Robertson has 477 votes.

Idzan for the NDP has 113, Madden for the Green Party has 50 and Henry for the PPC has 25.


(UPDATE: April 28 @ 7:53 pm) – Seven of 243 polls are reporting for the Kamloops-Shuswap-Central Rockies with Mel Arnold in the lead with 167 votes.

Robertson has 110 votes as of 7:53 pm.

Idzan for the NDP has 43, Madden for the Green Party has 12 and Henry for the PPC has 10.


(UPDATE: April 28 @ 7:32 pm) – Conservative candidate Mel Arnold has 71 votes so far.

He is followed by a tie vote between Ken Roberston for the Liberals with 52 votes.

Phaedra Idzan, candidate for the NDP, has 26 votes.

Michael Henry has eight votes and five votes have been recorded for Green Party candidate Own Green.

However, there is still plenty of time for more votes to be counted.

(Original story: April 28 @ 6:30 pm) – In a little over 30 minutes, polls will close in British Columbia.

Candidates in the Kamloops-Shuswap-Central Rockies riding will soon be awaiting the results.

According to 338Canada, the Conservatives are projected to earn 51% of the vote and the Liberals are project to earn 39%, plus or minus 8%.

Mel Arnold with the Conservatives has a 97% chance of winning the riding compared to Ken Roberston for the Liberal's 3% chance.

The Kamloops-Shuswap-Central Rockies riding has a population of 109,218 and there are 92,185 registered voters, not including those who registered today, Elections Canada says.
