As the heatwave bears down on us, we just gotta ask: What's your go-to iced coffee drink?
Iced vanilla latte?
Spanish latte?
Frappe?
Frappuccino?
Cold brew?
Eiskaffee?
Mazagran?
The java zealots at Coffeeness, which bills itself as the definitive resource for all things coffee machines and joe, crunched the numbers and found out.
Coffeeness dissected Google searches for iced coffee across the planet to unveil the favourite iced coffee drinks by country.
In Canada, the majority reach for an iced vanilla latte.
And who can blame us?
The iced vanilla latte (which is so popular it can go by the acronym IVL) is a refreshing and delicious drink of chilled milk, espresso and sweet vanilla syrup served over ice.
The IVL, and any other iced coffee drink, is a super summer pleaser because it delivers a caffeine injection in chilled format to beat the heat.
Thirteen other countries also count the iced vanilla latte as their best-loved: the US, UK, Australia, Bulgaria, Croatia, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Luxembourg, New Zealand, Serbia, South Africa and Sweden.
While we may be loving our IVLs, the frappe is actually the most popular iced coffee worldwide.
The frappe is a French concoction of an espresso shot mixed with cold water, chilled milk, sugar and ice blended into a delicious, frothy, icy quencher with a kick.
The frappe is No. 1 in 35 countries including Albania, Argentina, Bangladesh, Mauritius, Mexico, Nicaragua, the Philippines, Saudi Arabia, Switzerland, Taiwan and Spain.
Ironically, while a French invention, the frappe is not the favourite iced coffee in France.
That honour goes to the unique regional drink called mazagran, a cold sweetened coffee that originated in Algeria.
Another regional speciality is eiskaffee, a delightful chilled coffee mixed with vanilla ice cream and topped with whipped cream.
The eiskaffee is big in Austria and Germany.
Rounding out the top three is frappuccino, which is No. 1 in 12 countries, including Japan, Lebanon, Belgium , Chile, Jamaica, Kuwait, Morocco, Nigeria, Trinidad and Tobago, Egypt, Jordan and Venezuela.
By the way, a frappuccino is not a frappe.
A frappuccino is strong brewed coffee blended with cold milk, sweeteners, ice and syrup and topped with whipped cream and more syrup or chocolate shavings.
Cold brew is the go-to in eight countries -- Indonesia, Hong Kong, Czechia, Brazil, Turkey, Poland, Norway and Singapore.
Cold brew is made by steeping coffee grounds in cold water for 12 to 24 hours.
Ironically, again, the Spanish latte is not No. 1 in Spain (the frappe is).
But, Spanish latte is the favoured iced coffee drink in six countries -- United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Oman, Malaysia and Singapore (tied with cold brew).
