Beer column: An IPA story in 3 parts – 3.5%, 6.5%, 8.5% – with Field House Brewing

It’s always nice to have options and there’s no shortage of them in British Columbia’s craft beer scene.

Not only are the choices seemingly endless thanks to the more-than-200 breweries around the province, each one has a variety of creations that gives you plenty to mull over when staring at a menu or the fridges at your local liquor store.

Take Field House Brewing in the Fraser Valley for example.

In the last three weeks, the brewery has posted on social media about three IPAs – two new and one classic – but they're all quite different.

There’s the brand new Galaxy Mini Hazy IPA that’s just 3.5% ABV (alcohol by volume), the new Krush Hyperboost Cryo Simcoe Hazy IPA coming in at 6.5% ABV and their popular Super Tall Hazy Double IPA at a whopping 8.5% ABV.

The lightest of the three is also the newest release, as the Galaxy Mini Hazy IPA just dropped this week.

The brewery says it “packs in everything we love about a modern hazy IPA without the full buzz.”

Expect major flavour in this one, with bold peach and guava vibes through the sip followed by a tropical, juicy finish.

As you might have gathered by the name, the Krush Hyperboost Cryo Simcoe Hazy IPA is loaded with hops.

“A hop-charged beauty that’s all about big flavour,” the brewery explains. “We loaded this one with Krush and Simcoe (hops) in their Hyperboost and Cryo forms to crank up the intensity.”

You’ll taste bright stone fruit and zesty citrus in this one, with a little hint on that classic west coast pine.

While those first two beers are new releases, the Super Tall Hazy Double IPA has become a Field House staple that’s widely available around BC.

It’s big in every sense of the word, coming in a 568-millilitre tall can with a strong ABV of 8.5%.

Field House uses Mosaic, Citra and Krush hops for this creation and the result is a "big, bold beer" that’s bursting with tropical guava notes.

Whether you’re looking for a 3.5%, 6.5% or 8.5% ABV IPA this weekend, Field House has got you covered with a great selection of well-crafted brews.
