Beer column: I got that summertime, Summertime Hazy, su-su-summertime, Summertime Hazy

It’s officially the first weekend of summer and that calls for a certain type of beer.

You’re going to want something refreshing, something light, something that you can enjoy as you sit outdoors and enjoy the sunshine.

In that case, look no further than a new collaboration between the Fraser Valley’s Field House Brewing and Victoria’s Swift Brewing.

It’s called the Summertime Hazy and as much as I want to say it’s named after the iconic Lana Del Rey song, it could very well just be an ode to the season it’s best enjoyed in.

Either way, if Lana Del Rey is a beer drinker, I know she’d absolutely love this creation from the two British Columbia breweries.

It’s a light pale ale that’s packed full of hops to give it that hazy feel, but it’s certainly not anything close to a traditional IPA if you're someone who tries to avoid that kind of beer.

“A touch of Citra hops complements the Cryo Riwaka and Cryo Motueka, two cryogenically concentrated New Zealand hops which display an array of citrus and tropical fruit notes,” a post from Field House explains.

The Summertime Hazy comes in at just 4.5% ABV, which makes it a perfect sessionable summer beer to enjoy on a hot day.

You won’t find this one in BC Liquor Stores, at least not at the moment, but it should be at most private liquor stores that focus on craft beer.

So don’t waste any time; get to your local store, grab a four pack, crack one in the sun and blast some Lana Del Rey on this first weekend of summer!
