Beer column: These core beers from Superflux are as colourful as they are delicious

It’s never a bad thing when great BC craft beers become more readily available.

That became the case in 2024 when Superflux Beer Company decided to turn a trio of its most popular creations into core beers.

It meant that the Colour & Shape IPA, Happyness IPA and Easy Tiger Pale Ale would be brewed year-round and made available in more liquor stores across the province.

That includes a current residency at a significant number of BC Liquor Stores across the province, with all three available in four packs for well under $20.

The Vancouver brewery specializes in hoppy beers, so hop fans will definitely want to try these ones out.

The brewery also specializes in very cool, colourful cans, which means these bad boys will stand out on the shelves of liquor stores.

Colour & Shape IPA

Superflux calls their flagship IPA their “little baby,” an image of an everyday IPA.

Made with large amounts of Citra hops, it’s soft, tropical, citrusy and herbaceous on the palate with a medium bitter and hop finish.

Coming in at 6.5% ABV (alcohol by volume), the brewery says it’s bold enough to make you take notice, but also highly crushable.

Happyness IPA

Also coming in at 6.5% ABV, this one is Superflux’s “forward-looking take” on a classic West Coast IPA.

It’s bright and crisp, loaded with Mosaic hops, and the brewery says Happyness is similarly bitter to Colour & Shape but a little less crushable.

“Colourful notes of tropical fruit, pine sap and a medium body of slightly sweet malt,” the Superflux brewmaster explains of this beer.

Easy Tiger Pale Ale

If you enjoy a hoppy beer but are looking for something that’s a little more easy-drinking, this 4.5% ABV creation might be more up your alley.

It’s a wheat-based pale ale that’s moderately dry-hopped with a blend of American and Australian hops.

Easy Tiger is “delicate on the palate,” the brewery notes, with notes of citrus zest, guava and fresh cut grass before a “dry, yet soft finish.”
