This will be the third time I’ve featured Whistler Brewing in this beer column.
It’s not the small, independent brewery I typically like to highlight, but there is a consistent theme at play when I do showcase a Whistler creation.
As one of British Columbia’s oldest craft breweries, Whistler has a few beers that have been staples in this province for many years.
That’s true of the Chestnut Ale and Grapefruit Ale I’ve previously featured, and it’s true of the Winter Dunkel that takes centre stage this week.
The beloved seasonal from the Whistler-based brewery is back on store shelves for the winter and it’s one you’ll certainly want to try.
If you’re a fan of those classic Terry’s Chocolate Oranges, you’ll absolutely want to get your hands on a bottle of this beer.
“Winter Dunkel starts with chocolate and wheat malts, and then add a liberal helping of 100% organic chocolate,” the Whistler website explains.
“We then steep the brew with authentic orange zest and coriander in our pure copper kettles during boil.”
According to the brewery, the result is a “rich, full-bodied, subtly sweet” beer with a “decidedly chocolate orange finish.”
Whistler’s Winter Dunkel is made with Nugget, Challenger and Williamette hops, and it comes in with a 5% ABV (alcohol by volume) and 24 IBU (international bitterness units).
The best part of this popular BC-made winter beer is that it’s available at BC Liquor Stores throughout the province, so it’s not hard to find.
You should be able to locate it at most private stores that focus on craft beer as well.
