Beer column: Two polar opposite beers combine forces for this PB&J ‘Brewmix’

The fine folks at Dead Frog Brewery are big fans of something they call a “Brewmix.”

“Our tasting room team loves to get creative and make Brewmixes with two beers that we have on tap,” the Langley brewery says.

That mindset led them to combine a pair of polar opposite beers to create the liquid version of a peanut butter and jelly sandwich.

The PB&J Brewmix is a delicious love child of the Nutty Uncle Peanut Butter Stout and Raspberry Warhead Imperial Sour.

According to the brewery, it’s “bursting with fresh raspberry, peanut butter and chocolate.”

Although the beer has more of a stout appearance when it pours, it’s actually the tart flavour of the raspberry sour that comes through the most.

The peanut butter from the Nutty Uncle hits nicely at the end, as the two flavours blend perfectly to recreate the taste of the iconic sandwich.

Made with Willamette, CTZ and Cascade hops, and three different types of malts, the PB&J Brewmix comes in at 7.55% ABV (alcohol by volume) and 18 IBU (international bitterness unit).

Dead Frog sent this fun creation out to private liquor stores across British Columbia in December, but it’s hard to know which ones will still have it in stock.

For my Kelowna readers, I can tell you that I found this beer at Wine and Beyond near the intersection of Leckie and Baron roads, and the store’s website says they’re still in stock!
