Beer column: Two polar opposite releases that cover both sides of the fall equinox

I’ll be up front right away and say I’m not sure how easy these beers will be to find outside of the Lower Mainland.

This brewery’s beer typically makes its way across the province though, so if you don’t see these ones at your local store you can always inquire about getting them included in the next order.

“So why are you featuring these beers if you’re not sure if they’re widely available, Josh?”

Well, with the fall equinox on Monday, I thought it was a great time to shine a spotlight on these two polar opposite September releases from Camp Beer Co. in Langley.

The Waypoints Watermelon Wheat Ale is the perfect beer if you’re trying to hang onto summer, while the S’mores Chocolate Milk Stout is an ideal cozy-season sipper for those looking to embrace the arrival of fall.

Coming in at a light 4.8% ABV (alcohol by volume), Camp says the Waypoints Watermelon Wheat Ale is “brewed to capture the bright and refreshing taste of summer in a glass.”

This fresh and flavourful wheat ale is layered with juicy watermelon and delivers a gently sweet sip before a crisp finish.

From refreshing and light to smooth and rich, the 5.6% ABV S’mores Chocolate Milk Stout combines roasted malt character with a subtle dose of lactose and vanilla.

Layered with real chocolate for a decadent finish, the brewery calls this one creamy, dark and perfectly balanced, a beer that “makes you want to slow down and savour.”

As I said to start, hopefully you can find one or both of these creations at your local liquor store that focuses on craft beers, I know I’ll be on the lookout.

Alternatively, if you’re road tripping through the Lower Mainland in the near future, take a quick trip off Hwy 1 and into Langley to visit Camp in person.

I’ll be heading down that way from Kelowna in October and plan to do just that!
