Summer-like weather has arrived in full force.
I have the perfect award-winning beer for you to enjoy as you spend some quality time outdoors this weekend, whether it be on the patio, in the garden or at the park or beach.
This isn’t a new release, but it’s a summer favourite for many British Columbian beer drinkers and it’s back for another year of good times in the sun.
It’s the Moon Dance Mango Wheat from Old Yale Brewing in Chilliwack.
This bad boy comes in with an ABV of 5% and 15 IBUs, made with Hersbrucker hops and both wheat and Pilsen malts.
You will hear me use the word sessionable to describe a lot of beers featured in this column through the spring and summer, and it’s certainly a great descriptor for this one.
In fact, Old Yale summarizes this brew with three simple words – "smooth tropical freshness."
“Brewed with thousands of mangos, our Moon Dance Mango Wheat is hand-crafted to have an incredibly smooth texture which allows the vibrant, tropical flavour to shine through,” the brewery explains.
If you’re an adventurous beer drinker, Old Yale even has a great idea for you to get a little creative with their Moon Dance Mango Wheat.
They suggest combining it with their “bold and hoppy” West Coast IPA to create your own Mango IPA at home.
The brewery also suggests a few perfect food pairings for the Moon Dance Mango Wheat, which are shellfish, spicy seafood gumbo, jerk chicken, roasted duck breast or goat cheese.
If you want to try this Old Yale creation, which won a bronze medal at the 2019 BC Beer Awards, you should be able to find it at most government and private liquor stores in BC.
