After testing it in select stores back in August, Subway is now ready to roll out its Beyond Meatball sub as a permanent menu item.
The sandwich mimics the chain’s Meatball Marinara sub, but is made with plant-based Beyond Meat.
"We are proud to expand the Beyond Meatball to thousands of Subway locations across Canada, introducing the delicious taste and benefits of Beyond Meat to a widening consumer base," says Ethan Brown, Beyond Meat CEO and founder.
“Canada is a progressive market and we've seen strong engagement from consumers there. Through our partnership with Subway, we look forward to offering delicious, options that will excite new and existing fans."
Subway has partnered with Martha Stewart for the launch of the highly-anticipated vegetarian option.
The sandwich shop’s marketing director says Stewart was the perfect spokesperson thanks to her green thumb and culinary prowess made her the ideal fit.
"Subway had me at 'an exciting new plant-based protein choice,' because that's perfect for my lifestyle," Stewart said.
"The new Beyond Meatball subs really are delicious – and you could say I'm an expert when it comes to good taste."
This is just the latest Beyond Meat creation to be adopted by popular fast-food chains across the country, a wave that was truly kicked off by A&W.
