13th annual Chris Rose Walk for Autism is happening Saturday

The annual Chris Rose Walk for Autism is set to return to the North Shore this weekend.

On Saturday, April 20 from 11 am until about noon, residents are invited to the 13th annual walk, which raises funds for the Chris Rose Therapy Centre for Autism.

“The Walk serves two essential functions. One, to spread awareness of what autism is, and that we have a Centre like this in Kamloops,” says Wanda Eddy, executive director.

“Also, to raise funds for the Centre – we’re not fully funded, and we are a non-profit, so we need to fundraise around 40 to 50 percent of our operating budget.”

The centre, located at 1111 Tranquille Road, provides programs and services for the children, youth and adults with autism in Kamloops.

Registration will begin at 10 am and the walk will begin at 11 am and end around noon.

This year's route will see participants head towards McArthur Island then return to the centre.

It is expected the walk will wrap up at about noon with hamburgers and hotdogs made available by donation by the North Kamloops Lions Club. All proceeds will go back to the centre.

Coffee will also be served by the North Shore McDonalds. Kamloops Kia will also be on site.

Registration for the walk is by donation but there is a minimum $10 fee to receive a T-shirt.
