Thompson Rivers University Establishes Free Legal Information Service

The Thompson Rivers University (TRU)'s Faculty of Law is thrilled to be launching a free legal information service based out of the Brock Shopping Centre.

The Legal Information Service will run out of the Centre for Seniors Information (CSI) and aims to help residents navigate through legal processes.

It is available to anyone of any age.

TRU Law Professor Margaret Hall said "there is a wealth of useful and easy-to-understand legal information available to the public."

Hall suggested that their service will help individuals find the right sources of information to help with their legal questions. This program was birthed out of the success of a workshop last year by Hall and Law student Kelly Melnyk.

Professor Hall will be overseeing a team of upper year students to provide one-on-one support for individuals seeking information. While the students are unable to provide legal advice, the students can connect people with the right resources.

"Students will need to develop appropriate communication skills, which is crucial for anyone whose eventual practice will involved older clients and their concerns, wills and estates," said CSI director Brenda Prevost

The Legal Information Service begins on Friday, March 6 and will be open 2:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. every second Friday with workshops taking place on a regular basis.
