Facebook Page Kamloops History Informs, Entertains and Inspires

In an effort to preserve regional history and create a significant on-line resource, local residents have created the Facebook page Kamloops History.

Currently sitting at over 3,500 likes, the page encourages people to submit their own photos and subsequent stories from as far back as the 1800s right up until the 1980s. The page also shares valuable local tidbits. Did you know that the first cannery in Kamloops opened in 1915? With links to articles and websites it doubles as a great local reference.

The page is filled with black and white photos and memories of the past. It showcases important events in Kamloops’ history, landmark buildings and infrastructure including bridges, schools and shops, but most importantly it is a forum for the people, past and present, of this city.

Some of the most popular posts include scenes from the great outdoors. Hunters, fishermen and loggers, pioneer people of the past are particularly prevalent. Inspired, perhaps, by Kamloops’ beautiful peaks and crystal clear lakes, many followers have posted their favorite childhood camping pics.

Whether you are a lifelong resident or new to the region, Kamloops History is an invaluable resource for an incredible city.
