Now is the time to start your spring cleaning.
Sunday March 15, 2015 between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. the city of Kamloops will allow residents to use the Mission Flats and Barnhartvale landfills free of charge.
The city reminds that only items that cannot be reused or recycled should be disposed in the landfill. Recyclable materials like cardboard or scrap metal should be separated from household trash and yard waste should be brought to Cinnamon Ridge Compost, Barnhartvale or McGill Yard Waste Depots.
Mission Flats landfill will accept small appliances and electronics, lights, solvents, flammable liquids and adhesives, pesticides and gasoline in their original containers.
While March 15 might be a free drop off day, the city reminds that cardboard, metal, rubber tires, batteries, propane tanks, paints and aerosols in their original containers are free all-year-round. Conversely, charges will still apply for freon-containing items at $15 per item; bulky items $10 per item; and tires with rims $2 per tire.
