The grand opening of the Savona dock and boat launch took place on Friday, with municipal government representatives in attendance.
Residents were invited to the celebrations, as the boat launch is one of a limited number of public boat accesses to Kamloops Lake. The project was made possible thanks to a contribution of $170,000 through the federal Gas Tax Fund, $35,729 from the Thompson-Nicola Regional District, and $13,000 from the Savona Community Association.
“With British Columbia’s beautiful natural surroundings and spectacular weather, water activities are a popular choice for both residents and visitors. I would like to acknowledge the generous financial support we have received from the federal Gas Tax Fund, the Thompson-Nicola Regional District and the Savona Community Association for the renewal of this dock and boat launch which protects an important asset in the community,” said Todd Stone, MLA for Kamloops-South Thompson.

The total cost of the project was $218,729. The Savona Community Association operates and maintains the Savona Lakeshore Park, where the dock and boat launch are located.
“This is an excellent example of co-operation between all levels of government and the Savona Community Association to create public infrastructure. The refurbished boat launch provides much-needed access to Kamloops Lake for all the boating public and visitors and promotes the increased use of the lake as well as the scenic Savona Community Park,” said John Ranta, Chair, Thompson-Nicola Regional District.
Tourism is a major economic driver in Savona and the new dock and boat launch are vital components in maintaining the community’s economy and links to the region.
