Kamloops City Council will vote Tuesday to bring a Loan Authorization Bylaw for the purchase of the Owl Road Landfill.
Council had previously voted in a closed council meeting to start the process of acquiring the landfill located on Owl Road in Valleyview.
It will cost $6.3 million for the purchase of the landfill, and it is estimated to cost $3.7 million to establish a resource recovery centre and a Public Works and Utilities satellite yard at the site for a total cost of $10 million.
The resource recovery centre will work in conjunction with the Mission Flats Landfill so garbage waste will be dumped at Mission Flats, and reusable materials, such as wood, concrete, or asphalt shingles, will be processed at Owl Road.
City administration has proposed that the purchase be funded through debt and be serviced through landfill tipping fees. There will be no impact on taxes, solid waste rates, or landfill tipping fees.
The completion date for purchase of the Owl Road Landfill will be December 15, 2015, with the improvements to the site to start in 2016.
