Thompson-Nicola Regional District is encouraging residents to recycle their old tires in an effort to cut down the mosquito population.

“Many people may not realize that just a small amount of water inside any old tires sitting around their property can create the perfect breeding ground for mosquito larvae,” said Contractor Cheryl Phippen. “By safely recycling these unwanted tires at any of these free, drop-off location you’ll remove opportunities for mosquitoes to reproduce around your home.”

The district, in partnerships with the Mosquito Control program are providing free passenger tire drop-off locations in Kamloops, Chase, Clearwater, Barriere, Logan Lake, and Heffley Creek.

Tires can be dropped off between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m.
