As the energy sector continues to struggle, another set of layoffs at Horizon North were announced this week.
The factory, located in Mount Paul Industrial Park laid off 34 temporary positions this week. This is in addition to 90 layoffs announced in early February.
“Our business is predominately in the energy sector, oil and gas, and that market is just continuing to stay low and not recover,” said Horizon North vice-president of human resources Ben Bazinet.
The Calgary-based company provides manufacturing and also offers camp management services to energy and construction companies.
Bazinet said the 34 positions spanned from warehouse to administrative workers.
“We don’t know when people are going to come back, we don’t have a crystal ball, but we are optimistic that we will be able to bring them back at some point,” said Bazinet.
The company is optimist that new projects in permanent modular construction and liquefied natural-gas will help bring employees back in the future.
The layoffs leaves the Kamloops location with around 200 employees.
