The transformation from outdoor pool to spray park has begun at McDonald Park Pool.
Council decided during an April 5 meeting to convert the pool into a spray park and wading pool.
The decision came after months of public consultation and meetings on what to do with three recreational pools in the Kamloops north side.
In the end, the city’s elected officials decided to keep Westsyde Pool and Brocklehurst Pool open, while closing McDonald Park Pool.
That decision was revisited during a council meeting on Tuesday, April 12, where members voted to maintain their previous motion to close the pool.
“Council decided to close McDonald Park Pool due to extensive required repairs,” a press release said.
Beginning on Wednesday, heavy equipment will be working on the site to demolish the existing pool, and to fill and level the area.
The new pool is set to open early this summer.
