Skateboard culture is alive and well in Kamloops and a new exhibition at the Kamloops Museum and Archives will allow visitors to take a ride through its history.
Ground Control is an exhibition that will highlight historical skateboards, skateboard films, photos, and videos of local skateboarders and pros that have come from Kamloops.
The exhibition will showcase the evolution of the skateboard scene in the city and how McArthur Island Skateboard Park came to be. They will also be able to make suggestions for further developments of the park.
A mini half pipe will be on display for those who want to try their hand at dropping in.
“Ground Control represents a step toward connecting Kamloops youth to Kamloops culture. This interactive display, encouraging visitor submissions and participation, is one step for us in making it clear that we're all culturemakers, and culture matters here,” a press release reads.
Ground control runs from April 22 to August 20.
Opening night for the exhibition is on Friday, April 22 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. It will include refreshments, music and a talk by legendary skateboard, Kevin Harris.
