A suspect is facing several charges, including attempted murder, after a standoff on McGill Road on Saturday.
Derek John Muirhead, 29, of Kamloops, remains in custody and has been charged with attempted murder, discharging a firearm with intent to wound and possession of a firearm contrary to prohibition order.
At about 11:30 a.m., RCMP received reports of two men arguing in the 700 block of McGill Road.
Witnesses reported that one of the men fired a bullet from a pistol during the argument. No one was injured by the firearm.
Police responded to the area and located the other man who had ran from the area. Police also found the pistol a short time later.
Police attended the residence of Muirhead who was known to police, however, he refused to leave his apartment.
“Officers negotiated with the suspect until they obtained a search warrant seven hours later, at which time he agreed to come out of his apartment and was arrested without incident,” said Cpl. Jodi Shelkie in a press release.
Police believe the original argument between the two men was a consensual fight and the other man is not facing charges.
Kamloops RCMP believe the shooting is not associated to recent gang activity in the city.
