Tragically Hip fans in Kamloops will get the chance to watch the final Tragically Hip concert together as screenings are being planned in the city.
In partnership with the CBC and the Canadian Cancer Society, the band’s final show will be broadcasted for all to see.
The North Shore Business Improvement Association (NSBIA) and the Canadian Cancer Society confirm that at least one screening will take place in Kamloops at McDonald Park, with a second location in the works.
“It’s important to a lot of people. I don’t think you’ll meet anyone who hasn’t lost of been touched somehow by cancer,” Steve Puhallo, NSBIA executive director said. “For the CBC and the Hip to want this live screening to be community-based, community-set and to be a celebration, is really special and we hope everyone comes out to celebrate.”
A cross-country tour to promote their 14th studio album was announced on shortly after frontman Gord Downie had been diagnosed with terminal brain cancer.
The Man Machine Poem Tour began on July 22 in Victoria and will conclude on August 20 with the curtain-call performance in the band’s hometown of Kingston, Ont.
The performance will begin live on CBC at 5:30 p.m. local Kamloops time.
The screening will be free with the Canadian Cancer Society accepting donations in efforts to raise funds for brain cancer.
