The Newfoundland Capital Coorporation (Newcap) has added three stations to its B.C. repertoire.
It was announced on Wednesday that the company acquired Radio NL in Kamloops, which is the home to three radio stations.
Those stations are CHNL-AM (610 AM), CJKC-FM (Country 103) and CKRV-FM (97.5 The River).
“We are excited about the opportunity to enter the Kamloops market, where these stations already have a strong presence in the community” commented Rob Steele, President and Chief Executive Officer. “This acquisition continues to expand our presence in British Columbia and fits well with our current operations in Vancouver and the Okanagan Valley.”
The sale still needs the approval of the CRTC, but when that happens it would bring the amount of radio stations that Newcap operates in Canada from 95 to 98.
Radio NL General Manager, Garth Butchko, says that the Newcap culture is what stood out amongst other offers.
"We were going through the bid process with the number of offers we had,” said Butchko. “Newcap Radio aligned so perfectly well with our culture that it was a no brainer to sell to them."
The move is being called a historic purchase for the broadcasting industry, as Radio NL was one of the few independent stations left in the province.
No changes to any of the three stations have been announced by Newcap.
