Four Kamloops RCMP officers and a Southeast District traffic services officer have been named to the 2016 Alexa Team. The program recognizes police officers throughout B.C. who work to combat impaired driving.
Collectively, Cst. Mathew James, Cst. Paul Koester, Cst. Guillaume Pelletier, Cst. Michael Scherpenisse and Cst. Kaid Shewchuk took 194 impaired drivers off the road last year, Kamloops RCMP said in a press release.

Since its inception in 2008, Alexa’s Team has grown from 26 to more than 2,000 officers from all regions of the province.
Alexa’s Team is named after four-year-old Alexa Middelaer, who was killed by a drunk driver in 2008. The 56-year-old female driver was later convicted of drunk driving. Since the program started, Alexa’s Team members have processed more than 79,000 impaired driving sanctions.
Officers named to the 2016 Alexa Team were honoured in Kelowna earlier this month.
