Now there’s an app to remind you about garbage day

The City of Kamloops has launched its Waste Wise Kamloops app to help residents remember their collection day, so you never have to forget to put out the garbage again!

“The most common questions we receive at the Public Works and Utilities Department are regarding garbage and recycling collection services,” said streets and environment services manager Glen Farrow.

“As our collection days shift after stat holidays, it can be easy to lose track.”

The free app includes a collection calendar tool where you can enter your address to access your collection schedule. Residents can then sign up to receive collection day reminders via in-app notifications, email, phone call or text.

It also allows you to download a PDF of the collection calendar or embed in into Outlook, iCal or Google Calendars.

Another feature is Waste Wizard, a tool that can be used when you are unsure how to dispose of something. The search function will let you know whether it is included in curbside collection or if it should go elsewhere.

The city says the app aims to help divert materials from city landfills.

The Waste Wise Kamloops free app is available for download on Apple and Android devices and can also be accessed on the city’s website.
