Over the first weekend of 2025, the Kamloops RCMP responded to just over 270 calls for service.
Cpl. Crystal Evelyn, spokesperson for the detachment, highlighted a few of the cases, which included a bear-spray assault and a weapons report at the mall.
The RCMP are asking any witnesses of these incidents to call the detachment at (250) 828-3000 and be sure to refer to the accompanying file number.
On Saturday, around 4:40 pm, the RCMP were called to Royal Avenue for a report of a consensual fight between two teenagers turned into a bear spray assault. Two people were involved. An investigation into the alleged assault with a weapon is ongoing.
On Sunday, around 3:10 am, the Kamloops RCMP received a report that a taxi driver had allegedly been assaulted. The suspect fled on foot between Tamarack and Fort Avenues.
The Police Dog Services team was called in to track down the suspect. The man was arrested and released once sober with a court date and donations. Charges are expected to be recommended by police.
A report of a possible handgun at the Aberdeen Mall Friday afternoon led to a large police presence. Two youth suspects were quickly located, however. They were arrested and a bb-gun and knife were located and seized.
“Both youths were provided with warnings and transported to their homes, where police also conversed with their guardians,” the RCMP said.
A woman is facing charges after an arrest was made with the help of the Police Dog Services team. On Friday evening, the RCMP were called to the North Hills Mall where a vehicle had been reported as stolen. The vehicle was located and a spike belt was used to stop the vehicle, however, the driver continued onto Carson Crescent where the two occupants fled on foot.
A male suspect surrendered while a woman tried to hide, Police dog Neeka tracked the woman down. It was later discovered she was wanted on warrants. The man was released and the woman was held for a bail hearing on possession of stolen property, obstruction and flight from police. She has a court date on Jan. 10.
