The 43rd annual Kamloopa Powwow kicks off today at the Tk̓emlúps te Secwépemc Special Events Facility.
From now until Sunday, dancers and spectators from across Canada and the western parts of the US will gather at Kamloops’ powwow arbour for one of the largest powwows in North America.
Organizers expect an estimated 500 dancers and drummers will be in attendance.
“Attendees can expect to enjoy amazing drumming and dancing, colourful regalia, great food, and shopping at the artisan vendor booths,” the organizers say.
“Please remember that this is a drug and alcohol-free event.”
All facilities and vendors opened at 8:30 am on Friday. The grand entries for Friday and Saturday start at 7 pm. On Sunday, grand entry starts at 1 pm.

BC Transit will be offering additional transit service for Route 18 Mt. Paul.
On Friday, Route 18 will be on its regular schedule from 7 am until 6 pm.
On Saturday and Sunday, Route 18 will run from 11 am until 10 pm to give people more options to get to and from the powwow grounds.
