A Day in the Shoes of: The Hough Brothers with Re/Max Real Estate Kamloops

KamloopsBCNow is excited to take readers on a walk in the shoes of Kamloops' most interesting jobs!

Meet Tyrel and Torrey of The Hough Brothers with Re/Max Real Estate Kamloops. These Kamloops raised agents have 20 years of collective experience successfully selling residential and commercial real estate in the city. If you've ever seen one of their trademark 'champagne pop' photos on social media, you know they love to celebrate their clients' success!

What traits does a person need to succeed as a realtor?

The essentials are patience, honesty, integrity, and a genuine interest in people. We meet so many different personalities in this line of work, so you have to be able to accurately and quickly pick up on people's preferences and values.

What are some of the challenges?

Real estate transactions are time sensitive. There are always strict timelines and when you're coordinating with other peoples' schedules and agendas, it can be a juggling act. However, by being diligent and flexible with our own personal time, we always help people to move forward and feel comfortable with their decisions. There are other elements in the process that can be complicated, but we work with a skilled group of industry professionals to make sure all of the pro’s and cons are identified.

What is the most memorable moment you've had while on the job?

This isn't so much as a moment than it is an overall appreciation. We have a pretty amazing job where we get to interact with such a wide range of people that we might not otherwise cross paths with. Every time I'm out and about and get a wave or a hello from a past client, it just reinforces my sense of community, and I'm really grateful for that.

What are the top three things that separate you from your competition?

Our online marketing presence is something we've worked really hard at establishing, and continue to explore new strategies with. Time and again, new clients cite our online presence as a factor in their decision to list with us.

The other common denominators in our feedback are based on the quality of the service we provide and the level of integrity to which we conduct our business. We are both full-time agents, and we always make sure one of us is available 24/7 for our clients.

On top of that, we just love to celebrate our clients' success — as is evident by our library of champagne pops! We make it fun and memorable because it truly is a big accomplishment.

Do you work on your own or as part of a team?

We are wholeheartedly a team with a full-time client care representative named Trudy, aka Mom!

Describe your most challenging project so far. How did you deal with it?

One that sticks out is from 2010 which was at a time when the market was much slower, but we successfully sold 41 detached homes in a new subdivision in Aberdeen. The project was a huge learning experience for us and we found ourselves having to get really creative with our marketing efforts, tapping into things like first-time buyer incentives and strategies to build hype around the development. We essentially put our noses down and prioritized what was best for the project to move forward.
