There will be a little more festive cheer in Kamloops this year thanks to a new community event announced by the City today.
The inaugural Kamloops Christmas Market will be held over the final 10 days of November, from Nov. 21-30, in the Heritage House parking lot at Riverside Park.
According to the City, it will transform the area “into a festive, European-inspired outdoor marketplace, bringing the warmth and wonder of the holidays to the heart of Kamloops.”
It will be a “vibrant celebration of local artisanship and seasonal charm,” the City adds, where visitors will find a curated selection of homemade goods, artisanal gifts and local food and drinks.
The event is being put on by the Kamloops Sports Council (KSC) in collaboration with the City, Tourism Kamloops and the Kamloops Central Business Improvement Association.
KSC executive director Duncan Olthuis calls it a “true community collaboration.”
“It reflects the creativity, culture and spirit of Kamloops,” he said. “We’re thrilled to be launching something that will have a lasting impact on our city.”
The new market will open up at 11 am on weekends and 4 pm on weekdays, running into the late evening.
Guests will be treated to something new and unique each day, including live entertainment and visits from Santa Claus.
The City says there will be plenty of opportunities to sip something warm and soak in the festive atmosphere, and it’s hoped the Kamloops Christmas Market will become a beloved annual tradition.
“The debut of Kamloops Christmas Market is a meaningful moment that captures the essence of the holiday season in our community,” added Eric James Fisher, CEO of Tourism Kamloops.
“It’s a unique and special opportunity to spotlight local artisans, provide a new platform for entertainers, and welcome both residents and visitors into a shared experience of festive celebration and togetherness.”
Although the market is still three and a half months away, vendor applications are now open through the Kamloops Christmas Market website.
