BC’s Ministry of Emergency Management has announced new funding supports for people impacted by flash flooding in Savona earlier this month.
No injuries were reported, but about 20 homes were affected by the flooding that took place on June 30.
Clean up began shortly afterwards with help from volunteers from the Thompson-Nicola Regional District, the Skeetchestn Indian Band and Savona Improvement District.
Disaster Financial Assistance is now available to those whose homes were impacted.
According to the province, DFA may help with the loss of sudden, unexpected and uninsurable essential items.
A news release says that may include repairs to a principal residence, replacement of essential personal items, cleanup and debris removal.
Applications can be filled out on a new online portal and must be submitted to the Ministry of Emergency Management and Climate Readiness (EMCR) within 90 calendar days of the event declaration.
The deadline to submit applications for Savona DFA is Oct. 14, 2024.
