The playoff picture is starting to take shape at the 2025 Scotties Tournament of Hearts in Thunder Bay.
Included in that picture is Corryn Brown’s Kamloops rink, coached by Vernon’s Jim Cotter and playing at the tournament as Team BC.
According to CBC’s Devin Heroux, Team BC has officially clinched a playoff spot despite still having one round robin game left to play today.
It’s the first time Team BC has made the playoffs at the Scotties since Kelly Scott’s Kelowna rink won bronze in 2013.
Brown’s BC rink stormed out of the gate on Valentine’s Day with an 11-4 win over Selena Sturmay’s Alberta rink, which set the tone for what’s been a successful week so far.
They’ve added wins over Saskatchewan, Northern Ontario, Nunavut and New Brunswick, while the only blemishes on Team BC’s record are narrow losses to Kayla Skrlik’s Alberta rink and Rachel Homan’s undefeated Team Canada.
Team BC’s final matchup of the round robin will come today against Jane DiCarlo’s one-win Prince Edward Island rink, giving Brown and company a great chance to head into the playoffs with a 6-2 record.
All playoff spots are set in Pool A, as the teams led by Brown, Skrlik and Homan have guaranteed themselves spots in the Championship Round that begins Friday.
It’s a much different story in Pool B, however, as no playoff spots have been clinched and there’s a logjam of teams still alive in the top half of the group standings.
The playoff picture will become clear over the course of today’s actions and the field of 18 teams will be whittled down to six potential champions by the end of the night.
