(UPDATE: Jan. 1 at 11:09 am): Interior Health has released more information about the year's first babies.
In Kelowna, the first baby to arrive in 2025 was a girl named Kaur.
She weighed 8 lbs and 3 oz when she was born at 1:50 am in Kelowna General Hospital.
Her parents, Gagandeep Kaur and Sukhveer Dhillon, live in Kelowna.
It was their first child, Interior Health told NowMedia.
(UPDATE: Jan. 1 at 8:44 am): Interior Health has provided more information about BC's first baby of 2025.
The little one is a boy named Emerson.
He is Jordan and Elijah Hill's first child.
The couple lives in Kamloops.
(Original story: Jan. 1 at 8:07 am): British Columbia’s first baby of 2025 was born in Kamloops this morning.
The BC government said the little one entered the world at the Royal Inland Hospital at 12:02 am.
The baby weighed 7 lbs and 10 oz.

NowMedia has requested more information about the youngster.
In a Dec. 30 public notice, BCLC put the Royal Inland Hospital at 26 to one to see the first birth in BC.
That means anyone who put a $10 bet on Kamloops will now be sitting on $260.
The BC Women’s Hospital in Vancouver was once again the favourite this year, despite not winning the race since 2017.
In 2024, the first baby of the year was born in the Royal Columbian Hospital in New Westminster.
