Kamloops has lost a pillar in its community.
Katherine McParland, the Founder and Executive Director of A Way Home Kamloops, passed away on Friday. Friends of the beloved youth homelessness activist confirmed the news via social media this morning.
"I am so sad this Morning. It is with great regret we will have to say Goodbye to Katherine McParland from Kamloops, BC..," wrote her friend Benjamin Boden. "My condolences to the Kamloops community, she really didn't have much family. Her life was in her pursuit to end homelessness and she was the Executive Director and creator of A Way Home Kamloops."
McParland, who was in her early 30s, spent much of her teenage years on the street. After battling through her own adversity, she made it her goal to eliminate youth homelessness in the River City.
Her death was felt by countless members of the Kamloops community including City councillors, members of the local media and more.
The circumstances surrounding McParland's death have not yet been made public.
