Best hikes to try near Kamloops before it's too late

Though the summer weather is long gone, snow has not filled the province just yet and there is still tons of time for outdoor activities.

With it not being too hot or too cold, it is the perfect time to get in some last minute hikes.

Kamloops is home to some of the greatest trails in the province for beginners as well as pros. Shown below are some of the best hikes Kamloops has to offer.

Easy - Perimeter Trail:

Perimeter Trail looks exactly how it sounds, you circle a 2.5 kilometre dirt trail and end right where you started.

This beginner trail is located off of Rose Hill Road and circles the disc golf course. It takes approximately 25 minutes to complete, allows dogs and has cell service.

The greatest draw to this trail is that during your route you will be blessed with picturesque views of the South Thompson River. Directions to the trail can be found here.

Medium - Tower Trail:

You best have some decent cardio if you’re looking to make it up this trail. Starting at the entrance of Kenna Cartwright Park and climbing 3.4 kilometres, Tower Trail isn’t for just any hiker.

Though most of the trail just consists of dirt, sage, and weeds, the end is truly something to admire. Those able to climb the trail are granted a view of the entire Thompson Valley, ranging from Valleyview to Brocklehurst to Sa-Hali and everything in between.

The piece-de-resistance to this 35-minute hike is that, if you pack a lunch and make it to the radio tower, you can use the picnic table and dine with an amazing view. The trail's location can be found here.

Hard - Lac Du Bois (Tranquille):

Hope you are or are bringing an experienced hiker with you on this 14.5-kilometre trail. This trail offers several challenges including multiple routes, narrow spaces and even spots where you will have to climb rocks.

Lac Du Bois is covered in scenic viewpoints that could make any Instagram fans go wild. The elevation of the trail is also difficult as it can be as high as 1700 feet.

If you decide to tackle Lac Du Bois, make sure to bring plenty of water and be aware that cell service can be sparse. Directions to the trail can be found here.

Sketch - Silvertip Falls:

If you’re looking for an exciting, adrenaline-filled hike with a sweet reward, look no further than Silvertip Falls.

This hike is not for the faint of heart as climbers will get the chance to take in a 168-foot waterfall at the top. Though Silvertip Falls is only a 1.62 kilometre round trip, many portions of the area are wet, muddy and narrow.

To add insult to injury, Silvertip Falls has no cell service so hikers must use caution when climbing the trail. The big ticket to this trail is the waterfall, so be sure to snag a picture with it. Directions to Silvertip Falls can be found here.
