Body pulled from South Thompson River confirmed to be missing Kamloops man

Family and friends of Ryan Friesen, who had been missing since last fall, finally have some closure.

The 43-year-old’s body was pulled from the South Thompson River on Aug. 23, 2021, and DNA analysis confirmed that it was Friesen one week ago.

He was initially reported missing on Oct. 19, 2020, one year ago today.

“Police have been in contact with Mr. Friesen’s family, who supported releasing his name publicly to update those who have been actively looking for him since his disappearance,” explained Cst. Crystal Evelyn.

“The family has asked for privacy at this time.”

The cause of death has not been confirmed, but the Kamloops RCMP do not suspect criminality at this time.
