The Kamloops RCMP have added a feature to a pair of detachments in an effort to make the use of online buy and sell sites a little bit safer.
New buy and sell exchange zones have been introduced at the detachments at 560 Battle St. and 915 7th St. and will be open from 8 am until 4 pm, Monday through Friday.
“The goal of this new project is to provide locations where people can choose to complete their online transactions in a safer and monitored environment, in an effort to help reduce theft, robbery and fraud,” said Cst. Justice Lesuk.
“It’s a simple and straight-forward solution that will hopefully provide buy-and-sell shoppers with more comfort when they get to the actual physical exchange of cash and product.”
Both exchange zones will be clearly marked in the detachment lobbies and they are covered by 24/7 surveillance. The RCMP hopes they also offer even more piece of mind for people who know that officers are nearby.
While they are meant to be safe zones to exchange goods, the RCMP notes that officers will not be assisting or mediating exchanges and surveillance won’t be actively monitored.
Police also won’t take any financial responsibility for trades or provide any assurance regarding the validity of any items purchased.
