The City of Kamloops has announced they have plans to install a memorial art piece at Fulton Field Park as a tribute to fallen Royal Canadian Air Force Captain Jennifer Casey.
Casey was killed in a tragic plane accident in Kamloops in May 2020.
Her plane crashed as she and other pilots took part in Operation Inspiration, a mission meant to create a salute to those who were doing their part to stop the spread of COVID-19.
A permanent monument was announced about a year later in May 2021.
On Tuesday, plans for a large art piece were also announced.

Local artist and May She Soar monument creator, Sarah Holliday, says the memorial will help carry on Casey’s “encouraging mission.”
“The maple leaves are meant to be a mosaic of our collective grief at the loss of Jennifer Casey, while the branches represent Canadians joining together to lift up the memory of a hero,” Holliday says in a news release.
“The three supporting pillars are symbolic of the specific communities that rallied around this tragedy, namely the City of Kamloops (its citizens, officials, first responders, health care workers, and the Tk’emlúps te Secwépemc community); Captain Casey’s hometown of Halifax, Nova Scotia; and the Canadian Armed Forces.”
Fulton Field Park has been included in city plans since 2012 and is currently under construction and will be completed later this year.
At that point, the city encourages and invites residents to visit the park and enjoy its amenities, including the art piece.
