The City of Kamloops announced today that they would be contributing $25,000 to the Custom Care and Patrol Team's expansion to the North Shore.
According to the City, the CAP Team is well established in the downtown core, but an expansion would allow pedestrian-oriented community ambassadors to provide the same service across the river. The North Shore CAP Team was established by the City in 2018 with support from the Kamloops Central Business Improvement Association.
“We are proud to be supporting this program again so that we can continue to support North Shore businesses, residents, and visitors,” said Mayor Ken Christian. “The City’s contribution is to ensure the program continues while the North Shore Business Improvement Association (NSBIA) works to include permanent funding in its levy renewal with its members, which is expected by 2020.”
The service will include two full-time North Shore CAP Team members. Those members will conduct patrols from May 15th to August 31st from Tuesday to Saturday between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m., as well as September 1st to 30th from Thursday to Saturday between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m.
Members of the team will include young adults who are either students or recent graduates. Ambassadors will need to provide a variety of services to promote a friendlier community.
The program hopes to give students career-related experience and assist them in developing a broad range of skills.
