City receives provincial award for Kamloops Christmas Market

The City of Kamloops is proud to announce it is a recipient of the BC Recreation and Parks Association Events and Festivals Excellence Award for the inaugural Kamloops Christmas Market. The award was presented at a ceremony held in Vancouver, BC, on April 30, 2026.

The Events and Festivals Excellence Award celebrates outstanding event planning and delivery that strengthens community connection, inclusion and cultural vibrancy. The City received the honour in recognition of the inaugural Kamloops Christmas Market, which was a collaboration between the City and several partners, including the Kamloops Sports Council, Tourism Kamloops, Tḱemlúps te Secwépemc, Downtown Kamloops and Scwén̓wen Economic Development Corporation.

The success of the Kamloops Christmas Market demonstrates the power of collaboration and thoughtful programming in creating meaningful community experiences. The Events and Festivals Excellence Award highlights the City of Kamloops’ ongoing commitment to investing in events that strengthen social connection, celebrate culture and enhance overall community well-being. Recognition at the provincial level reinforces the value of collaborative, inclusive and community-driven event planning.

“The Kamloops Christmas Market is a wonderful example of how events can bring people together in meaningful and inclusive ways,” said Katie Fenn, Chief Executive Officer, BC Recreation and Parks Association. “Through strong partnerships and thoughtful programming, the City of Kamloops has created a vibrant celebration that reflects community spirit, cultural diversity and a shared sense of belonging during the holiday season.”

“I’m thrilled that we have been recognized by peers and professionals in the community programming space for our efforts in bringing the Kamloops Christmas Market to fruition. As a dedicated champion for this community event, I am incredibly proud of the work and success of the City and its partners,” said Councillor and Deputy Mayor, Katie Neustaeter.

Launched in 2025, the inaugural Kamloops Christmas Market welcomed residents and visitors with a festive atmosphere that highlighted local artisans, seasonal programming and inclusive, family-friendly activities. The event was intentionally designed to celebrate connection, support local creators and provide a welcoming space for the community to gather during the holiday season.

“The inaugural Kamloops Christmas Market was a true display of partnership, with several organizations contributing their time and funds to make the event a success. It’s tremendously satisfying to have that collaboration recognized through this award,” said Dušan Magdolen, the City’s Cultural Services and Events Manager. “We are so excited to have the market become an annual tradition in our community.”

The market’s success was made possible through strong partnerships with community organizations, businesses and volunteers who contributed their time, resources and expertise.

“Receiving this award is an incredible honour for the Kamloops Christmas Market. It reflects the strength of our partners, volunteers, vendors, performers and attendees, and what is possible when the City of Kamloops, Tourism Kamloops, Kamloops Sports Council, Tḱemlúps te Secwépemc, Downtown Kamloops, and Scwén̓wen Economic Development Corporation work together,” said Duncan Olthuis, Executive Director, Kamloops Sports Council.

“We’re absolutely thrilled to see the Kamloops Christmas Market recognized in this way and are proud to have been a partner of the 2025 event. It has truly energized winter visitation in Kamloops, creating a magical experience that draws people in and leaves a lasting impression on everyone who attends,” said Erik Fisher, Chief Executive Officer, Tourism Kamloops.

Following the success of the inaugural event, the City looks forward to helping grow the Kamloops Christmas Market as an annual tradition, continuing to bring people together and contribute to a vibrant and connected community.
