The City of Kamloops wants to hear from the community about an upcoming transit fare review.
According to the city, fare reviews are typically done every three to five years.
However, the Kamloops transit system’s current fare structure has been in place for six years and fare products (day passes, monthly passes, etc.) were actually reduced in 2019 to align with BC Transit’s fare guidelines.
The last time transit fares increased in Kamloops was in 2011.
Since then, the Kamloops Transit System has seen significant operational cost increase, which has triggered the latest review, the city said in a news release.
The review will look at the current fare structure and products to see if they are supporting the maintenance and expansion of bus services while addressing rising operational costs.
“The goal of the review is to balance the needs of affordability and ridership growth with achieving a higher level of cost recovery (passenger fare coverage of operating costs),” the city said in the news release.
From now until May 1, the city will be gathering information from the community through an online survey, which is available here.
Paper surveys are available at city hall, which is open Monday to Friday, 8 am to 4 pm.
The city reminds people that paper surveys need to be completed in full and returned in person or by mail by 4 pm on May 1.
