Construction has started on the 2019 Training House Project in Tobiano.
This 29th annual project is beneficial for first-year residential construction and electrical program students at Thompson Rivers University as it provides the opportunity for hands-on learning.
While working on the project, students with learn foundation, framing and much more. All students work closely with the Canadian Home Builders Association Central Interior (CHBA CI) to complete the home together.
“This project allows us to be part of the community and also showcase the incredible talents in our local homebuilding industry,” remarked Kelly Reid, CHBA CI 1st Vice President.
For the last 22 years, the finished home has been sold to the Kamloops YMCA/YWCA for their Dream Home Lottery fundraiser. Proceeds from the lottery have gone to specific community endeavours coordinated and run by the Kamloops YMCA/YWCA.
This year, the home will be a one story, three bedroom home with a basement and is approximately 3,300 square feet.
“For us, it is about enhancing the educational experience of our trades students by giving them on site experience in addition to classroom work,” added Bryce Coombs, TRU Instructor.
CHBA CI will be profiling the building steps on their social media channels to give everyone a visual of the building process.
