The City of Kamloops says it has ended its agreement with Saltair Childcare Society that would have seen a new childcare centre built on Lorne Street.
Earlier this year, the city said it was successful with its ChildCareBC New Spaces Fund application and would be developing a daycare in the Station Plaza that would be geared towards city employees.
The daycare was set to open this fall.
However, in a statement issued Friday afternoon, the city said it would not be moving forward.
“The City has lost confidence in the operator’s ability to meet their contractual obligations and provide the level of service we would expect from a partner in childcare,” the statement said.
“Therefore, we have opted to seek an alternative childcare operator.”
The opening of the daycare will now be delayed as a result of the cancelled agreement.
According to the statement, the city said the facility is ready-to-go but it is still seeking a new operator and it is confident it can find an operator.
There was no timeline for when the facility may open.
