Charges are expected after the Kamloops RCMP stopped the driver of an allegedly stolen van.
On Friday morning, around 11 am, RCMP officers received a report of a vehicle stolen from the North Shore near Tranquille Road and Simcoe Avenue.
The vehicle was a delivery van, police said in a news release.
Sgt. Chris Kienzle, Kamloops RCMP Detachment spokesperson, said the responding officers reported seeing erratic and dangerous driving behaviour.
As a result the officers deployed a spike belt near Grand Boulevard in an effort to stop the van.
“Use of the spike belt resulted in slowing the vehicle and the eventual stop and arrest of the driver without any injuries,” said Sgt. Kienzle.
One suspect was taken into custody just west of Pat Road on the East Trans-Canada Highway.
The investigation is ongoing but police said charges are anticipated.
Anyone who witnessed the incident is asked to call the detachment at (250) 828-3000 and refer to file number 2025-18465.
