Direct WestJet flights between Edmonton and Kamloops will be returning this summer.
The airline announced on Monday that WestJet Encore will operate the route twice per week starting on July 6.
“Restoring service to Kamloops and introducing service to Prince George is a direct reflection of Canadians’ interest in exploring their own backyard this summer,” said John Weatherill, WestJet Executive Vice-President and Chief Commercial Officer.
“With more flights and more seats in key Western Canadian markets, we’re giving Canadians better access to the destinations they rely on for business, leisure and visiting loved ones.”
According to the WestJet website, trips will be operating on Sunday and Friday.
Trips from Edmonton to Kamloops average at $245 while trips from Kamloops to Edmonton would average $195.
Jim Moroz, Managing Director, Kamloops Airport, said the airport was looking forward to working with WestJet returning to the region.
“As a gateway to the City of Kamloops and the Thompson Nicola region, Kamloops Airport is very pleased to welcome back WestJet’s service to Edmonton,” said Jim Moroz, Managing Director, Kamloops Airport.
“Edmonton has long been a popular destination for our community, and the service comes just in time for travelers on both ends of the route to reconnect with family and friends during the summer months.”
WestJet flights operated between the two cities in 2021 but were cancelled a few months later.
In May 2023, Flair airlines announced fights between Edmonton and Kamloops but that service was cancelled by July due to low demand.
