Discovery of Glock 42 pistol during traffic stop leads to charges against Kamloops man

Charges have been laid against 27-year-old Tyler Dean Rear after weapons were discovered inside his vehicle during a recent traffic stop in Kamloops.

The Kamloops resident was pulled over near the Overlander Bridge in the early hours of March 30 after officers noticed his vehicle did not have its taillights on.

During the stop, police found weapons inside his vehicle, including a loaded Glock 42 pistol.

Cpl. Crystal Evelyn says Rear was arrested and held in custody for a bail hearing related to eight charges anticipated against him.

“He was remanded in custody until his next court appearance, scheduled for April 11,” she explained.

He has now officially been charged with the following:

  • Careless use, storage or transport of a Glock 42 pistol.
  • Carrying a concealed weapon.
  • Occupying a vehicle knowing there was a prohibited weapon inside, the Glock 42.
  • Possessing a prohibited weapon without a licence.
  • Possessing a prohibited weapon.
  • Possessing a loaded prohibited or restricted firearm.
  • Possessing a firearm knowing that the serial number had been altered.
  • Possessing a prohibited or restricted firearm while prohibited.
