The Conservative Party of Canada announced that Erin O'Toole would be their new leader on Sunday night, and a Kamloops Member of Parliament couldn't be more thrilled about it.
MP Cathy McLeod was delighted to pass on her congratulations to the new leader. She called O'Toole the "right leader to set a new course" for the party.
"I have worked alongside Erin since he was first elected in 2012 and proudly supported him during the past two leadership races," said McLeod. "As Canada is going through challenging times, Erin is the right leader to set a new course to not only point out Liberal failings and corruption but also to show Canadians our vision for a stronger, prosperous and more united Canada."
McLeod believes that O'Toole understands how high the economic stakes are for the country during the COVID-19 pandemic as much or better than anyone.
"Our country is currently facing its most serious economic challenges since the Great Depression. Capital and jobs have been leaving Canada and large deficits were being run before the COVID crisis led to record debt and deficits."
"I look forward to Canadians getting to know what Erin O'Toole has to offer. A leader with real-world experience and not afraid to make tough decisions. A leader that recognizes that the world still needs more Canada, it just needs less Justin Trudeau.
The House of Commons is set to resume on Sept. 23, which will be one of the first times the country will officially see the new leader of the opposition.
