Whether they make salsa, run gas stations, mine copper, manage your money, build houses, treat you pet or wire your business – they are all excellent.
They are the 48 finalists in 15 categories for the Kamloops Business Excellence Awards.
The company with the most finalist nods is Teck Highland Valley Copper – a copper and molybdenum (steel alloy) mine located 50 kilometres southwest of Kamloops.
Besides being recognized in five categories – innovation, the trades, leadership, employer and community service – Teck Highland Valley is famous for its three huge domes, which cover ore, and are painted red and white with a maple leaf to create the world’s largest Canada flag, which is soooo big it’s visible from space.
The annual awards are put on by the Kamloops & District Chamber of Commerce and MNP accountants and consultants.
“These awards recognize the ingenuity and excellence of businesses in Kamloops as well as the entrepreneurs behind the scenes that make Kamloops a great place to work, play and do business,” said MNP partner Jessy Sra.
“Congratulations finalists.”
The finalists were announced this week at Powwow Arbour in Tk’emlups te Secwepemc.
For the 2023 awards, there were 214 nominations that were whittled down to the list of finalists by a selection committee of 30 independent judges based on a scoring system.
Committee members will now interview each finalist to determine the winners.
The winners will be announced at the Kamloops Business Excellence Awards, Thursday, Oct. 26 at a gala at Thompson Rivers University.
Tickets are already for sale at www.kamloopschamber.ca.
A 16th winner – the ‘business of the year’ will be announced at the gala.
The ‘business of the year’ will be chosen from the list of winners in the other 15 categories.
“Congratulations to all the finalists on this well-deserved recognition,” said Acacia Pangilinan, executive director of the Kamloops & District Chamber of Commerce.
“Their accomplishments have set them apart as shining examples of excellence and serve as an inspiration to us all. We eagerly anticipate celebrating their achievements at the upcoming awards ceremony in October.
