Is it really a Canadian winter if you haven’t strapped on pair of skates? Luckily freezing temperatures in Kamloops mean more opportunities to hit the ice during the holidays!
In addition to several arenas, Kamloops is home to a few outdoor rinks that are operated independently by neighbourhood associations and volunteers.
Because they aren’t refrigerated, these facilities are only open when temperatures fall below 0 C. We know of at least two neighbourhood skating rinks that have been successfully flooded and frozen.
The Westsyde Community Development Society has its rink at Centennial Park open for public skating. Find the multi-use park at 705 Franklin Road.
Also flooded and ready for skaters is the rink in Juniper Ridge. Volunteers have flooded both the boarded rink and the tennis courts at Juniper Park, 2150 Qu'Appelle Blvd.
The city is also has extra public skate times for the holidays at indoor rinks around Kamloops. In addition to the regular skate schedule, there will be public skating at Memorial Arena from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 28.
Extra holiday skate times at Sandman Centre include Tuesday, Jan. 2 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and Friday, Jan. 5 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Of course, the outdoor skating rink at Sun Peaks is another great option. The rink is open for public skating on Saturday and Sundays from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and again in the evening. See the full schedule here. Skate and stick rentals are available.
