Greenstone Park in Lower Sahali, which is popular with dog owners and tobogganers, will be closing for several months while the Pemberton Water System is upgraded.
The extensive project will take place from approximately the end of February through November, and will include the installation of new critical water infrastructure.
The project includes constructing a new reservoir and booster station and upgrading water servicing lines.
Installation of the new reservoir requires removing bedrock from the park, which is conducted through blasting.
A qualified blasting contractor will be conducting controlled blasts in the park in mid-March, and the blasting portion of the project is expected to be completed within two weeks.
Blast vibrations will be controlled and seismically monitored, and all blasts will be designed to ensure no damage is done to any property or structures in the area, according to the City of Kamloops.
Although the vibrations generated by blasting will be kept below the seismic threshold level for damage, minor blasting and construction vibration may be felt in nearby homes. Any fragile items should be packaged or protected from damage due to vibration.
Following the water infrastructure upgrades, the park will be restored to its former state with new turf and an upgraded irrigation system.
